Obsidian Ridge is the newest Edmonton wedding venue and it is absolutely stunning! This venue and the owners have throught of every aspect of the wedding day experience and then taken it to the next level. From the moment you enter the grounds, travel down the road between two ponds, enjoy the beautiful uplighting on each and every tree and make your way up to the ceremony site everyone will be in awe of the beauty.
The ladies of LifeDotStyle Photo + Film and I visited the venue last week in winter, so we only were able to see the winter wonderland beauty of Obsidian Ridge. Already I could soak up all the beauty that is and what will be when the flowers start blooming, when the water isn’t a skating rink and the mountain stone ceremony takes life.
Today’s post is going to walk you through my experience of the Edmonton wedding venue Obsidian Ridge with the lovely images provided by LifeDotStyle and all the details provided by one of the owners Layson Lafayette. I want you to see the magic that I saw when I visited for the first time and then dream up the gorgeousness of Obsidian Ridge in the summer. And I might sprinkle in some photos from Obsidian Ridge taken in the summer just so you can get the full effect!
You guys I might be in love with Obsidian Ridge! It is so beautiful.
Ok so here goes.
As mentioned we drove through this beautiful winter wonderland road that gave our first insight into what Obsidian Ridge is all about. We then pulled up to just outside the ceremony site which walking up to already had be thinking about all the beautiful photos that will be taken there. The guests attending, their jaws dropping at the beauty when they see the ponds, waterfalls and arches. And that is only the beginning.
At the entrance of the Ceremony site on the one side is the view of 2 ponds, one with A buddha located in the middle. This pond has a raised platform which actually allows couples and whole bridal parties to stand out in the water and give the effect of walking on water. As I said they thought of everything! Beyond the first pond is a second man made lake and just beyond that will be pasture with horses roaming. Imagine the wedding photos that will be captured in just this one location.
From there you turn to enter the ceremony location which has this stunning arch made of stone on the outside and wood slates all inside the arch. I was shocked that the interior of the arch was filled with wood, a detail that I fully appreciated the beauty of it but also the hard work it took to create this beautiful photo worthy space. On either side of the arch is waterfalls falling over more stones.
One thing that Layson had mentioned that I loved was that they really wanted to incorporate the 4 elements into the design of Obsidian Ridge. So the pond I spoke about earlier along with the waterfalls represents water. To the right of the pond is an area that represents Air. This is a walking path that the bride and groom can take together for little break or again another absolutely beautiful photo location.
When you walk past the beautiful arch you enter the ceremony outdoor location. Essentially it is a large circle with an amphitheatre at the end of it. The circle is made of mountain rock brought in from Revelstoke & Golden BC. They are also the perfect seating for guests to circle the happy couple celebrating their wedding. The nice thing about this ceremony set up is you have several options for getting married. You can take advantage of the already built amphitheatre and be married under it. You can bring chairs and have them lined up to make an aisle. Or and this is my favourite to be married right in the centre and have all your guests circle you sitting on the mountain stones. There are so many options and they are made so easy but the incredible design. It is such a beautiful touch for this Edmonton wedding venue.
The mountain rock ceremony site also represents Earth, bringing in the mountain stone and grounding the ceremony site for home, foundation, family and wealth.
Following the ceremony guests will be welcome to enter the Clear Span Tent located just beside the ceremony site. This wasn’t up for me to walk through since it was winter but their mock ups of what the tent will look like have me dreaming of all the beautiful weddings that will take place in there and the love that will be shared.
Next to the tent will be a bar made of a grain bin. I was able to see the grain bin but this will be completed for this years weddings so until they have provided me with their inspiration picture of how fun it will be. The bar counter will also be made with beautiful curved wood which they had on site and I can say is beautiful.
I always say that every Edmonton wedding venue just needs to have good bones to make a wedding beautiful. This venue has it all and then some. So many elements thought of to make it truly special. And I still haven’t even gotten to ALL the amaziness to come.
After the dinner reception in the tent you can continue the dance there of course but you can also head back to the ceremony site and dance under the stars! As I said the whole venue is equipped with lighting so even the stones in the ceremony location have lighting all around so at night it will glow. Add in a DJ or band, maybe some dance floor lighting and you have an incredibly special party that not many get to experience at their wedding.
Now you might be wondering what happened to the 4th Element Fire? Well after the dance is done and you just want to wind down with your close friends, who by the way get to camp on site. Everyone will meet up at the sunken fire pit, which is very large and can fit plenty of people with seats on logs, stones and grass. The reason it is sunken also is because it protects everyone from any wind and also keeps the sound contained so you can enjoy the fire all night long. This space will also have an outdoor bar and dry wood available. It’s also a great place to make your morning breakfast the next day with friends and family.
Ok did you think that was all? Nope…
I was so caught up in the ceremony and reception areas that I didn’t mention the Man Cave or Bridal Suite. Yes they have both of those options for the bridal party. What I was blown away by was the Man Cave. Yes the bridal suite is beautiful and I definitely appreciate that but as a planner I get to see how the guys don’t get the same treatment. So Obsidian Ridge created a space for the guys to get ready too and called it the Man Cave. So guys you now have a special space to get ready and do all your guy things.
For the guests with kids there is also a KID ZONE! I’m a mom of 2 little ones and the sight of this kid zone had me giving so much appreciation. It’s also huge with seating for the parents so when you are watching your kiddos you can sit back and enjoy. Or if you are a kid at heart and want to get into the kid zone too, then rest assured the whole kid zone can handle any adult having a great time in there too.
